Background
Ethnic minorities (EMs) in Hong Kong (HK) face considerable challenges in integrating into local society. Despite HK's reputation as a multicultural hub, EM communities often experience discrimination, social exclusion, and limited opportunities for meaningful interaction with HK locals. A survey conducted by the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (2022) highlighted key barriers to integration include language communication barriers (54.5%), low contact between groups, limited knowledge (39.4%), and differences in religious practices and culture (36.4%). These barriers create a gap between HK locals and EM communities, hence, creating the need for a platform that promotes mutual cultural exchange and collaboration, fostering more integration, inclusion and understanding.
Mission
To promote cultural exchange and interaction and enhance mutual understanding between the ethnic minorities in Hong Kong and its' locals through an interactive culinary workshop.
Why are we invested?
In HK, EM groups refer to persons of non-Chinese ethnicities. The major EM groups in HK include Filipinos (32.5%), Indonesians (22.9%), and other South Asians (44.6%). Although there are many programmes for EMs in HK, they mostly focus on the domestic workers in HK which represent the lower class groups. Whilst university students represent the middle and upper class groups and are at a unique intersection where they are both ethnic minorities and recipients of higher education. Currently in HK, local university students are also in a stage of rapid development of cultural identity and social awareness (Willis, 2004), highlighting the importance of shared mutual understanding and need for cultural exchange. Our project proposal aims to enhance this understanding and cultural exchange through an interactive culinary cultural workshop.
A Multi-cultural Culinary Workshop
Hong Kong being a culturally diverse city has lacked support for teenage cultural integration work.
In light of that, we as psychology students in the CUHK formed up a culturally diverse team, aiming at delivering an insightful and influential workshop to urge better cultural integration among Hong Kong locals and the Ethnic Minorities in Hong Kong.

What is LARPG?
Live Action Role Play Game (LARPG) is an immersive role-playing game that involves real-time interactions (Shook, 2020).
Each player portrays a specific character within a shared narrative With the emphasis on two-sided interaction in LARP, participant engagement is enhanced. activating the central route of persuasion, and enriching participants' learning experiences.

Our Objective

Our LARP
We designed our own scripts then organized a few sessions of LARP play for youngsters aged 18-25.
We aim to let them gain insights of gender stereotypes by having immersive experience in the play.
Participants can experience how different characters encounter different gender stereotypes and link these experiences back to their reality, as if they have personally experienced the stereotypes.
This can help strengthen their memories and help participants apply the knowledge in their daily lives.

What is Love Languages?
The concept of Love Languages was introduced by Dr. Gary Chapman, who identified five primary ways people give and receive love: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, and Physical Touch. Each person has one or more preferred love languages that make them feel most loved and emotionally connected.
Interactive Exhibition
Understanding your partner's love language helps build stronger communication, enhance emotional intimacy, and reduce misunderstandings. Research shows that couples who understand and express love in their partner’s preferred language experience higher relationship satisfaction (Mostova et al., 2022).
Our exhibition is built around these five love languages, offering interactive zones and missions to help couples learn, explore, and apply this concept in a meaningful way.
Explore Our Five Love Language Zones
In each zone, you'll find three engaging activities designed for couples:
-
Discussion Cards: Thought-provoking questions that spark meaningful conversations.
-
Expressive Writing: Activities that encourage couples to write and share their feelings.
-
Shared Activity: Fun experiences that couples can enjoy together.
